(This is a seven poem series that was directly inspired by my younger brother, Sam. I wrote a different poem based on my perception and experiences with him at each stage.)

Future

I don’t know who you are,

who you will be.

But I hope you’re still

that little boy

who loved dinosaurs

and cartoons.

I hope you still find me

jokes funny

and my grilled cheeses the best.

I hope you’re strong,

confident, and can handle anything.

I hope your pick-up lines

are less corny

and that you learn how to

fix your hair.

I hope you find love

and more importantly,

contentment with yourself.

I don’t know who you are,

and neither do you – yet.

But I know that I’ll love you,

just like I always

have.

Love,

Sissy
